"I had the privilege of working with Coach Royal Webster throughout middle and high school, and he truly changed my life. He taught us the value of hard work on the court and how to grow as men off the court, always leading by example and guiding us in the right direction."

Celebrating Coach Royal Webster and 50 years of coaching basketball!

Coaching basketball has been a part of who I am for the last 50 years.

I was just 13 years old when Mr. Dick Barth asked me to coach a 10-and-under team. He explained that many of the players didn’t have an adult male in their lives, and knowing I had lost my father to cancer five years earlier, he believed I could connect with them. He was right. That team went on to win the Tamiami League 10U Championship—and I was hooked.

From that moment on, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to coach boys, girls, women, and men at nearly every level of the game. Somewhere along the way, I learned that winning is simply a byproduct of doing everything else right—and that the people I coached always mattered far more than any scoreboard.

On March 23rd, I officially stepped down as an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Lake Highland. The most constant part of my life is now behind me.

Much to my surprise, a video was created highlighting a small piece of those 50 years. In it, many people thank me—but the truth is, I’m the one who is most grateful.

If you want to know what kind of Congressman I would be, just ask any of the players I’ve coached.
