In recent weeks, high school students across the U.S. have staged walkouts to protest actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and broader federal immigration policy. Students in states including Georgia, Indiana, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Florida, Rhode Island, California, and across parts of the Northwest have participated in demonstrations, with events drawing hundreds to thousands of participants at individual schools.
For example, more than 100 schools in Georgia reported walkouts on January 30, and hundreds of students
walked out in Indianapolis and Dallas in early February. Many of these actions were tied to growing concern over immigration enforcement and the impact on families and communities.
While administrations, state officials, and school districts have responded differently—some threatening discipline or investigations—the movement continues. Additional walkouts are being organized in states such as Maryland for events later in March, indicating the protests are not isolated and may continue as young people remain motivated to make their voices heard.
